This is the next project we did. Up until now we had mostly goldfish. We had two gold colored koi, about 3 inches long, and two shushuies, about 5 inches long. We wanted to move them to their own pond and get more to go with them. We bought the pond quality koi and even though they are not show quality to take to shows, they are still incredibly beautiful. We have one that looks platinum that I can hardly wait to see get bigger.

We have read that koi jump out of new ponds and even though we covered them with a netting, two of the larger ones found a place where there was a wrinkle in the fabric and jumped anyway. They only jumped into an area just a little bit bigger than they were. It's too bad we didn't find them in time.

Boy in front of pond

We built another bigger pond in front of our house. This one we used concrete blocks and a liner. It is a bit deeper at one end and we made shelves for plants at each end. I haven't decided to paint the blocks yet or not.

Rectangle pond

The next picture is of the above pond after more additions and changes. As you can see, it hardly looks like the same pond. We do have a lot of string algae, I can pull it out every day if I just would. I don't treat for it for the simple fact that this pond stays clear all year long and I don't want to jinx it in any way.
